Misericordia Tops Alvernia 14-3

Dallas, Pa. (Apr. 9, 2011) - Misericordia University (7-4, 3-3) broke open a close game with seven goals in the third quarter and topped Alvernia University (2-9, 0-6) 14-3 Saturday afternoon in Middle Atlantic Conference men's lacrosse action at Mangelsdorf Field.

The Cougars scored the first two goals of the game before the Crusaders got on the board on a Sean Boyd (Churchville, Pa./Council Rock South) goal just over five minutes into play.  The host tacked on a third goal in the opening quarter and two more in the second for a 5-1 lead at the halftime break.

The Cougars scored on goal early in the third then six over the final 8:43 of the period while Alvernia managed one tally getting a man-up goal from Rick Reid (Drexel Hill, Pa./Monsignor Bonner).  Reid added another goal in the fourth quarter, but Misericordia salted away the win with two more tallies.

Junior goalie Kevin Shupp (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) recorded 11 saves in net for the Crusaders.

Alvernia returns home and will host DeSales University Wednesday.
