Albright Levels Crusader Cup Record With 2-0 Win Over Altoona

Cooper And Hand Tally For Lions, Giuliano Save A Pair

BOX SCORE

Reading, Pa. (Sept. 4, 2011) - Albright College senior reserve Katie Cooper entered in the 26th minute and needed little time to make an impact as she burried the first goal of the game within a minute to spark the Lions (2-0-1) to a 2-0 win over Penn State Altoona (1-1) Sunday afternoon in game three of the Crusader Cup Women's Soccer Tournament hosted by Alvernia University.

The Nittany Lions had the early surge of offense but they stalled with three offsides calls and their first shot was turned away by Albright keeper Olivia Giuliano.  Giuliano needed just two saves to record her third straight shutout to start the season.  She made both saves in the game's opening 13 minutes then relied on her defense to keep Altoona at bay.

Cooper's third of the season was set up by freshman Erin Hand.  Hand put home the other goal--her first of the year--in the 63rd minute.

Altoona, which scored two in the final eight minutes to beat Alvernia on Saturday, ramped up the pressure late, but couldn't get through to Giuliano.  The Nittany Lions had a pair of corner kicks in the final three minutes and whistled a shot wide in the final minute.

Alvernia and Gwynedd-Mercy will wrap up the Crusader Cup Sunday afternoon.
