Dolan Scores A Pair In 7-2 Win

BOX SCORE Reading, Pa. (Dec. 2, 2012) - Senior Patrick Dolan (Cranford, Pa./Cranford) collected his fourth and fifth goals of the season helping the Crusaders (16-3) thump Bryn Athyn College (2-6) on Sunday evening.  The Crusaders also got a strong performance in the net by freshman goaltender James Bangar (Whittier, Ca./La Mirada) making a spot start and responding with 18 saves. The win keeps the Vern's current four-game winning streak alive.

Bryn Athyn College showed plenty of life in the first period, mounting several quality odd-man rush scoring opportunities.  The Lions created several nervous moments early on, and nearly grabbed the lead but Bangar nullified a break away and several two-on-one chances.  The game was still dead locked 0-0 with just over 4 minutes remaining in the opening period.  Jim McKelvie (Hatfield, Pa./North Penn), taking his own advice “broke the egg” with a slippery low wrist shot through a screen from the middle of the circles.  Before public address announcer finish announcing McKelvie's 11th goal of the season, the Vern lit the lamp with another pair.  The Crusaders struck with three lightning-strike goals in a 1:04 span with Kevin Mengel (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown) and Dolan finishing the 3-0 trifecta.

Bryn Athyn kept the game very respectable with outstanding goaltending from Matthew Bartalini who recorded 30 saves.  Alvernia proved too much offense over the 60 minutes, and wore down the Lion defense with speed and line depth.  Senior Mengel tallied his 16th and 17th goals with one assist.  Nico Delgiorno (Columbia, Pa./Hempfield) returned to the lineup with a strong four point evening, a goal with three helpers. Rounding off the scoring for the Crusaders included senior defenseman Travis Gold (Columbia, Pa./Hempfield) firing home a right circle drive.
