Reading, Pa. (Feb. 25, 2012) - The Alvernia University Men's Lacrosse team (0-1) was defeated by Centenary College (1-0) by a score of 10-3 Saturday afternoon at Schlager Memorial Field in its 2012 season opener.
Centenary controlled the opening faceoff and never looked back jumping out to a 5-0 lead.
The Cyclones found the back of the net five times in the opening quarter before junior attacker
Brian Ray (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) scored Alvernia's first goal of the season curlng around the net and bouncing a shot past the Cyclones' goalie.
Centenary standout midfielder, Josh Caven dominated the game scoring four goals and assisting on another. He also posted a 14-17 record on faceoffs which helped his team control the pace of the game.

Kevin Shupp (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) played the first 30 before giving way to freshman
Brandon Weaver (Shillington, Pa./Governor Mifflin) at the half. In his first game, Weaver denied a Centenary attacker as he made an impressive stick save between his legs. He finished with three saves.

Jared Toll (St. Catherines, Ontario/Lewisburg) tallied two goals in his first college lacrosse action.
Alvernia is back in action on Tuesday night when they travel to Pittsburgh to play non conference opponent La Roche College.
