Bainbridge Scores Five In Second Straight Game

Gwynedd-Valley, Pa. (Mar. 15, 2012) - Alvernia University (2-2) surrendered a slim one-goal halftime lead then scored the final 11 goals of the game in a 19-9 win over Gwynedd-Mercy College (0-3) Thursday afternoon in non-conference women's lacrosse action at Gwynedd-Mercy.

Junior Alli Bainbridge (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) scored a team-high five goals for the second straight game.  Sarah George (West Chester, Pa./Bayard Rustin) added four and Sam Landis (Watsontown, Pa./Warrior Run) added three.

Alvernia took a 6-4 lead late in the first half, but GMC scored the last goal of the first and the first three goals of the second half to take an 8-6 lead.  Alvernia came back with two straight to tie the score at 8-all, but GMC took the lead back on a free position goal with 22:33 to play.

The Griffins were held off the board for the rest of the game.

George scored back-to-back goals to give the Crusaders the lead and Jacquelyn Strange (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock) scored a pair for a three-goal lead.

Alvernia junior Vicky Kearn (Merrick, N.Y./Sanford H. Calhoun) made 10 saves to earn the win and senior Jenn Czarnecki (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Huberts) played the final 20 minutes and made four saves.

Alvernia returns home to host Susquehanna University on Saturday.
