Eastern Sneaks By Alvernia, 13-12

St. David's, Pa. (Mar. 24, 2012) - Alvernia University (3-4) scored a goal in the last minute to pull within out, but couldn't find the equalizer in a 13-12 loss to Eastern University (1-4) Saturday afternoon in non-conference women's lacrosse action at Eastern.

Eastern tallied the first four goals of the game, but the Crusaders fought back to within a goal at 9-8 on a Tori Morrello (East Norriton, Pa./Kennedy Kenrick) scored eight minutes into the second half.  Alvernia was able to close the gap to one on five differnet occasions in the second half.

Alyssa Verrillo (North Wales, Pa./Archbishop Wood) scored with seven minutes to go for a 12-11 count, but the Eagles answered in the next minute.  Neither team scored after that until Alli Bainbridge (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) scored a free position goal with 28 seconds to play.  The Crusaders won the ensing draw, but couldn't get off a shot and the Eagles held on for the win.

Bainbridge and Sarah George (West Chester, Pa./Bayard Rustin) led the Alvernia offense with four goals apiece.  Jen Czarnecki (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Huberts) made seven saves in net for the Crusaders.

Alvernia continues the season Thursday hosting Cabrini College.
