Bethany, WVa. (Mar. 8, 2012) - Alvernia University ran off five straight goals from the end of the first quarter through the third to turn a 3-1 deficit into a 6-3 lead on its way to a 7-4 win over Bethany College Thursday afternoon in non-conference men's lacrosse action at Bethany.
The Crusaders got down early as Bethany scored three times in the opening quarter. Alvernia junior
Paul Tarnacki (Howell, N.J./Howell) scored late in the first quarter then Collin Gallagher (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) tallied back-to-back goals to open the second quarter and give the Crusaders the lead, 4-3.
Tarnacki scored the final goal in the second quarter to put Alvernia up 5-3 at the break, and
Brian Ray (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) scored the only goal of the third quarter for the Crusaders. By the time Bethany put its fourth goal on the board with 2:42 left in the game, the Crusaders had run off a scoreless streak of over 30 minutes of gametime.
Tarnacki answered the Bethany goal with a tally off the faceoff and the Crusaders evened up their record at 2-2 with the 7-4 win.
Alvernia returns home to host College of Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
