Chester, Pa. (Apr. 10, 2012) - Senior attack Sarah George (West Chester, Pa./Bayard Rustin) continued to exhibit her scoring touch with a game-high seven goals Tuesday evening leading Alvernia University (7-4, 1-0) to a 16-10 win over Widener University (5-5, 1-1) in Commonwealth Conference women's lacrosse action at Widener.

George scored eight goals in the Crusaders' win over Misericordia last Monday and earned Commonwealth Player of the Week honors.  She now has 190 career goals, just 14 shy of Alvernia's career record of 204 held by Felicia Sippel ('11).

After more than 12 minutes of scoreless action Tuesday night, George scored twice in a 23-second span to put the Crusaders up 2-0.  Widener answered to pull within a goal, but Alvernia scored four straight--including two more from George--to push the gap to five goals, 6-1.  An exchange of goals left the Crusaders with a 7-2 lead at the break.

George scored to open the second half and the Pride couldn't put together a run of more than two in a row for the rest of the half with Alvernia keeping a comfortable margin until the final horn.

Alyssa Verrillo (North Wales, Pa./Archbishop Wood) and Heather Coppola (Fulton, N.Y./G. Ray Bodley) scored three goals apiece for the Crusaders and Jen Czarnecki (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert's) made 12 saves in net.

Alvernia returns to action Saturday hosting Lebanon Valley College at 1:00 p.m.
