Crusaders Fall At Elizabethtown

Blue Jays Win 17-6 Behind Dominating First Half

Elizabethtown, Pa. (April 18, 2012) - Alvernia University (7-6, 1-2 Comm.) fell at Elizabethtown (9-4, 3-1 Comm.) this afternoon in Commonwealth Conference Women's Lacrosse action by a score of 17-6.  The Blue Jays came out with a dominating first half, outscoring the Crusaders 12-1 and never looked back.  Alvernia had five different goal scorers, including Sarah George (West Chester, Pa./WC Bayard Rustin), whose goal today brings her to 247 career points, just one shy of the record.

The Blue Jays scored the first seven goals of the game before Alvernia was able to find the back of the net with a goal from Samantha Marino (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon) with 13:39 remaining in the first half.  Elizabethtown closed the half with another five goals for the impressive 12-1 first half lead.

The Crusaders struck first in the second half with a goal from Alyssa Verrillo (North Wales, Pa./Archbishop Wood) less than three minutes into the half, but the Blue Jays answered with the next five goals for a 17-2 lead.  The Crusaders wrapped up the scoring as the game wound down, with four goals in the final six minutes of play.

Alvernia will look to rebound on Sat. April 21 when they host Messiah College for a Commonwealth Conference match-up beginning at 1:00 pm.
