Crusaders At Messiah Wednesday

Reading, Pa. (May 1, 2012) - Alvernia University (9-7, 3-3) qualified for the Commonwealth Conference Championships and will travel to top-seeded Messiah College (14-2, 6-0) for a semifinal match-up Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.  #3 Lebanon Valley will travel to #2 Elizabethtown on Wednesday in the other semifinal.

The Crusaders
The offensive attack is led by senior Sarah George (West Chester, Pa./Bayard Rustin) who tied the single season school record for goals with her 65th in Saturday's win at Lycoming.  She owns the single-season record for points with 75 and the career mark for points with 259.  She is one goal shy of the career record for goals with 203.  George also brings a solid supporting cast with three other players over 30 goals for the season.  Allison Bainbridge (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) is second with 41 goals.  She entered her junior season as the career assist leader and has padded her lead with a team-high 19 this year giving her 66 for her career.  Junior Alyssa Verrillo (North Wales, Pa./Archbishop Wood) is third with 36 goals, and senior Sam Landis (Watsontown, Pa./Warrior Run) is fourth with 33.

Senior Jen Czarnecki (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert's) has made nine starts in goal for the Crusaders and enters the postseason with an 8-4 record and a 10.87 goals against average. 

The Falcons
Messiah also heads into the playoffs with a clear scoring leader.  Rachel Dirksen has tallied 66 goals for the blue and white to go with a team-best 26 assists.  Lizzy Keeney (48) and Meghan Doolittle (30) are the only other two players with 30 or more goals on the season.  Taylor Phillips has started all but one game in goal with a 8.56 goals against average.
