Crusaders Earn First ECAC Title

BOX SCORE

Scranton, Pa. (May 13, 2012) - Junior Alli Bainbridge (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) scored six goals in the third straight game and senior goalie Jen Czarnecki (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert's) made a dozen saves and was named Most Outstanding Player as Alvernia University (12-8) finished the season winning the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Mid-Atlantic Region Women's Lacrosse Championship with an 18-7 win over #2 Marywood University (16-5) Sunday morning at Marywood.

Bainbridge ran off a streak of four straight goals assisted by four different players as the Crusaders scored the first five goals of the game and never looked back.

The host Pacers found themselves down 5-0 just over 10 minutes into the game, but answered with back-to-back.  Alvernia came back with three straight goals and held a 9-4 lead at halftime.

The Crusaders erased any thought of a comeback with the first three goals of the second half and closed the game with the final four goals.  Senior Sarah George (West Chester, Pa./Bayard Rustin) finished the game with five goals.  She holds the single season record for goals at 78 and the career record with 216.  Heather Coppola (Fulton, N.Y./G. Ray Bodley) had three goals in Sunday's final.

Alvernia earns its second ECAC Title of the year.  The Men's Basketball team won the ECAC South Title back in March.
