Grantham, Pa. (May 2, 2012) - Top-seeded Messiah College (15-2) ran off a string of 12 straight goals in the first half en route to a 19-5 win over #4 Alvernia University (9-8) Wednesday afternoon in semifinal action of the Commonwealth Conference women's lacrosse championships at Messiah.
The Crusaders scored the first goal of the game when
Sam Landis (Watsontown, Pa./Warrior Run) scored 70 seconds after the opening draw. It took the Falcons four minutes to respond, but they from there they ran off 12 straight over the next 20 minutes. Landis broke the streak with her second of the game with just under three minutes left in the half and the Falcons had one more before the break to take a 13-2 lead at halftime.
Alvernia senior
Sarah George (West Chester, Pa./Bayard Rustin) scored on an assist from Landis midway through the second half to break the season record for goals with her 66th. She added a second goal of the game with 3:39 left to break the career goals record with her 205th. Both records had just been established a season ago by
Felicia Sippel ('11).
Senior goalie Jen Czarnecki (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Hubert's) made 10 saves in net for the Crusaders.
Alvernia will await a potential bid into the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Mid-Atlantic Championship. Bids will be announced Monday with ECAC quarterfinal action set to begin next Wednesday.
