Campbell And Delgiorno Shine In Loss To Knights

BOX SCORE Reading, Pa. (Oct. 13, 2013) - Alvernia lost a tough 5-3 contest to the defending DVCHC Conference Champion Neumann University Knights on Sunday evening.  The Crusaders (4-2-1) stayed close throughout the night but ultimately Neumann capitalized on Alvernia miscues, scoring three power play goals and a shorthanded knockout punch.

Alvernia was offensively powered by another fine effort and productive performance from sophomore Nico Delgiorno (Columbia, Pa./Hempfield) who collected another goal and assist on the evening. Delgiorno tallied his team leading tenth goal of the season with a beautiful backhanded roof job on the Vern's power play in the second period.  The first line tandem of Delgiorno combined with center Brian Callahan (Willow Grove, Pa./Upper Moreland) and Jim McKelvie (Hatfield, Pa./North Penn) have combined for 20 goals in seven games creating fits for opposition goaltenders.

Alvernia trailed for a majority of the game but did manage to tie the contest at the 7:42 mark of the second period with another man advantage goal.  McKelvie fed a crisp offensive zone dot-to-dot pass which Callahan one-timed with authority from the middle of the right offensive circle.  The score remained locked at three, however Neumann collected the game winner in the closing minutes of the period.

Alvernia received another outstanding performance from budding sophomore Aiden Campbell (Foxboro, Ma./Foxboro).  Campbell has arrived this season with relentless aggressive two way hockey.  He has been getting it done in every zone with a special emphasis in good corner hockey.  Skating on the second line and renewed confidence has provided the Vern with much needed depth in the lineup.
