Bryn Athyn Tops Alvernia, 8-2

BOX SCORE Reading, Pa ( Nov. 9.2013 ) - The high powered Bryn Athyn College ( 5-2 ) offense tuned up the Alvernia University ( 9-4-1 ) with a dominating performance Saturday evening at The Body Zone.

The new team on the block in the DVCHC made a strong statement in establishing its presence as serious contender to shake up the balance of power.

The Vern has now dropped two consecutive crucial ACHA Atlantic Region tilts with the Bryn Athyn game holding more weight as it drives the Crusaders farther down the National Division Standings and currently out of the playoff picture. The Lions entered the game just as the first ACHA Rankings were released as #8 in the Atlantic and should anticipate major leap frog over the #6 ranked Crusaders. A convincing victory coupled with a huge win over Neumann University last week moves Bryn Athyn as the cream of the crop at the moment.

The Crusaders played a strong first period and hit the intermission trailing 1-0 after giving up a late goal. The Vern came out strong after the intermission with good pressure, but the flood gates opened wide for the Lions bombarding three goals in a six-minute stretch midway thru the second sealing the game away with a commanding 4-0 lead.

The Crusader broke the ice at the 7:49 mark of the period with sophomore scoring sensation Nico Delgiorno ( Columbia,Pa / Hempfield HS ) connecting on a power play opportunity for his team leading 20th goal of the season.

The Vern mounted one last effort early in the third period scoring in the opening minutes again off the stick of Delgiorno with his 21st lamp lighter. Goaltender Sean Boyd ( Churchville, Pa / Council Rock South )  was handed the loss in the pipes facing 40 shots.

The Crusaders will face #5 anked Neumann University Friday night in Aston and make the journey on Saturday to Atlantic City to play Richard Stockton College of New Jersey.
