BOX SCORE Freeport, NY (Feb. 2, 2013) - The Crusaders dropped a tight contest to Atlantic Regional power house Farmingdale State College 2-1 on Long Island Saturday night. The Ram's, currently ranked #2 in the ACHA Atlantic Region, appear to be more vulnerable these days, but don't tell the Crusaders that, considering they have dropped all three regular season match-ups. The Saturday loss and other losses may ultimately determine which team earns the automatic bid to the Division III National Tournament in March.
Farmingdale State plays home games in the unique Freeport Recreational Center “bubble” in Freeport, located in Nassau County, Long Island. The 'bubble' as it is referred, has exceptional acoustics with great surround sound which tends to reverberate throughout the complex. The lighting leaves something less to be desired as shadows cast a subtle darkness across the ice surface.
Despite the interesting playing venue, the Vern could not figure out how to break the wall behind Farmingdale goaltender Austin Liddycoat. The Crusaders managed to fire 27 shots on Liddycoat, but only
Nico Delgiorno (Columbia, Pa./Hempfield) was able to break the invisible seal for the Crusaders lone goal. Farmingdale erased the one goal deficit in the second period firing home two goals and clinging to the narrow lead for the win. The Crusaders did hit a post and a cross bar in the first period, however that only sounds good and is worth nothing in the box score.
The Crusaders will host Salisbury University for Senior Night Game on Saturday night for the last game of the regular season.
