Selinsgrove, Pa. (Mar. 16, 2013) – Seventeenth-ranked Susquehanna University (7-0) jumped out to a 9-1 halftime lead en route to a 14-3 win over Alvernia University (1-3-1) Saturday afternoon in non-conference women's lacrosse action at a snowy Susquehanna.
Susquehanna opened the scoring with an unassisted goal by Emma Ehler and Alvernia answered four minutes later when Hanna Dorsch (Hamden, Conn./Linganore) tallied her fifth goal of the season. From there it was all Susquehanna for the rest of the first half as the hosts scored eight goals in the final 18:25 of the half for a 9-1 lead at the break.
Susquehanna scored the first goal of the second half, then better than 15 minutes elapsed before Alvernia junior
Nora Walsh (Hatfield, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) converted a free-position shot. Susquehanna scored three straight from the free position and
Allison Bainbridge (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) scored Alvernia's final goal with three minutes to play.
Vicki Kearn (Merrick, N.Y./Sanford H. Calhoun) made a career-high 20 saves in net for Alvernia.
Alvernia will continue the non-conference schedule hosting Eastern University on Thursday.
