Second Half Run Leads Alvernia Over Lycoming

Verrillo Tallies Five For Crusaders

Reading, Pa. (Mar. 28, 2013) - Alvernia University (4-4-1, 1-0) scored six of the first seven goals in the second half to break a 4-4 halftime tie en route to a 13-9 win over Lycoming College (3-5, 0-1) Thursday afternoon in Commonwealth Conference women's lacrosse action at Schlager Memorial Field.

Freshman Julie Sutton (Sewell, N.J./Clearview) scored the first two of the half to put the Crusaders up 6-4 and Alli Bainbridge (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) followed with two goals around one for the Warriors.  Alyssa Verrillo (North Wales, Pa./Archbishop Wood) and Jackie Strange (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) followed with goals that put the Crusaders up 10-5 with 17:05 to play.

Lycoming came back with three straight goals, but Alvernia answered with the same to regain the 5-goal lead with three minutes to play.

Vicky Kearn (Merrick, N.Y./Sanford H. Calhoun) finished with 13 saves.

Alvernia continues the conference schedule at Albright on Wednesday.
