Crusaders Win OT Thriller On Ray Goal

Toll Scores At End Of Regulation To Force Overtime

BOX SCORE

Reading, Pa. (Mar. 9, 2013) - Sophomore Jared Toll (St. Catherine's, Ontario/Lewisburg Area) scored a game-tying goal with no time left in regulation and senior Brian Ray (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) netted the game-winner 75 seconds into overtime as Alvernia University (2-3) knocked off Mt. St. Vincent by a 9-8 final Saturday afternoon in non-conference men's lacrosse action at Schlager Memorial Field.

The Crusaders forced a turnover trailing by one late in regulation.  They got a timeout with 19 seconds to go and set up a shot for Paul Tarnacki (Howell, N.J./Howell) that whistled wide with four seconds to go.  On the restart from the endline Patrick Corcoran (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks South) threw a pass on a line over the top of the net that Toll redirected just in front of the horn to tie the score.

Alvernia won the faceoff in overtime and setup offense in the Mt. St. Vincent end.  Ray ended up with the ball on a curl from the left side and squeezed off a low shot that found the ball of the net.

Ray finished with a hat trick, Toll and Mallory Piere (Maplewood, N.J./Columbia) had two goals each.  Brandon Weaver (Shillington, Pa./Governor Mifflin) made seven saves for the win.

Alvernia will host Rosemont on Wednesday.
