Reading, Pa. (Apr. 23, 2013) - Alvernia University (6-7-1, 3-3) scored four straight goals early in the second half to pull within three goals, but Elizabethtown College (9-6, 5-2) scored seven straight to end the game and take a 21-11 win Tuesday afternoon in Commonwealth Conference women's lacrosse action at Schlager Memorial Field.
The Crusaders were led by freshman
Julie Sutton (Sewell, N.J./Clearview) who scored four goals on six shots and handed out two assists.
Hannah Dorsch (Hamden, Conn./Linganore) scored three goals to record her third hat trick of the season.
Senior
Allison Bainbridge (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) scored the first goal of the game and Sutton put the Crusaders up 2-0 with her 30th of the season nearly five minutes into the game.
Etown responded with two goals separated by just over a minute and scored six straight and nine of the next 10 for a 9-3 lead with just over 12 minutes left in the half. Alvernia came back with two goals, but Etown put together a string of four straight for a 13-5 lead and enjoyed a 13-7 lead at the break.
Etown scored the first goal of the second half before the last Crusader streak of four straight that included all three of Dorsch's goals.
Alvernia has an important rescheduled game with Widener on Thursday night and wraps up the regular season at Messiah on Saturday. A win on Thursday would wrap up the 5th spot in the playoffs for the Crusaders.
