Nico Delgiorno scored four goals and added an assist Sunday afternoon as the Crusaders dropped a 9-6 decision to Rowan University in Delaware Valley College Hockey Association action at the Body Zone.
Brian Callahan and
Jim McKelvie scored a goal apiece and
Dustin Stuck and Brett Fernandes both had two assists.
The teams alternated goals in the first period until the visiting Profs scored back-to-back for a 4-2 advantage with a little better than eight minutes on the clock. Delgiorno netted his second goal of the first period at 17:43 and the Crusaders hit the first intermission trailing by one, 4-3.
The second period featured four goals--two by each side--with all four coming in a span of 45 seconds. The Profs opened the scoring with a short handed goal at 5:33, and McKelvie answered 12 seconds later with an even-strength tally. Rowan needed just 16 seconds to push back to a 2-goal advantage and Delgiorno closed the rush of scoring at 6:18 with his third of the game.
Alvernia tied the score at 6-6 on Delgiorno's fourth of the night 12 minutes into the third period, but Rowan answered 40 seconds later then added a pair of insurance goals in the final four minutes of play.
The Crusaders' season continues Saturday at Farmingdale State.
