Crusaders Drop Season-Opener, 16-4 At Shenandoah

Four Different Players Score For Alvernia

Winchester, Va. (Feb. 22, 2014) - Alvernia University (0-1) got goals from four different players including three first-year players in a 16-4 loss at Shenandoah University (2-0) Saturday afternoon in non-conference men's lacrosse action.

The Hornets scored the first four goals of the game before the Crusaders answered with the final goal of the first quarter and the first of the second quarter to cut the deficit in half. 

Shenandoah answered with three goals to end the second quarter and take a 7-2 lead at the break then scored six straight in the third quarter and the first of the fourth for a commanding 14-2 lead.  Alvernia scored twice in the final 10:31 of the game.

Kyle Farrell (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield), Thomas Warwick (Newark, Del./Pencader Charter), and Benjamin Manning (Perkiomenville, Pa./Boyertown) each scored their first career goals and senior Colin Gallagher (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson) scored as well.  Brandon Weaver (Shillington, Pa./Governor Mifflin) made 20 saves for the Crusaders.  Gallagher won 8-of-14 faceoffs helping the Crusaders to a slight 12-11 lead in starts.

The Crusaders return home and face Centenary on Wednesday.
