9-Goal First Half Carries Crusaders Past Eastern

St. Davids, Pa. (Mar. 12, 2014) - Alvernia University (1-3) scored nine goals in the first half and held a 9-3 lead at the break on its way to a 12-8 win over Eastern University (2-3) Wednesday afternoon in non-conference women's lacrosse action at Eastern.

Junior Julie Sutton (Sewell, N.J./Clearview Regional) scored first first and last goals of the half and Nora Walsh (Hatfield, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) scored twice in the last two minutes of the opening half.

Alvernia scored the first five goals of the game over the opening 13 minutes then saw the Eagles storm back with three straight to cut the gap to two.  Candace Knight (Dalington, Md./Havre de Grace) scored to stop the Eastern run then Walsh scored back-to-back and Sutton tallied in the final seconds of the half.

Eastern scored the first two goals of the second half, but Alvernia stayed comfortably out in front with goals from Knight and Sutton.

Katie Ensulo (East Lyme, Conn./East Lyme) scored to put Alvenria up 12-6 and Eastern scored the final two goals of the game.

Alvernia returns home to face Marywood on Saturday.
