Strange, Knight Carry Crusaders Past Misericordia, 12-9

Dallas, Pa. (Mar. 18, 2014) - Juniors Jacquelyn Strange (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North) and Candace Knight (Darlington, Md./Havre de Grace) alternated scoring over four straight tallies to close the first half and Alvernia University (3-3) built an 8-3 lead at the break on its way to a 12-9 win at Misericordia University (1-5) Tuesday afternoon in non-conference women's lacrosse action.

Strange and Knight scored four goals apiece to lead the Crusaders with four other players scoring one goal each.  Sophomore Colleen Reilly (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) made 10 saves in net for the win--the third straight for the Crusaders who started the season with three straight losses.

Alvernia opened up a 4-1 lead early in Tuesday's game then saw the Cougars claw back to within a goal at 4-3 before closing with the last four goals of the half.

Misericordia put together a 3-goal spurt to pull within two, 9-7, but Alvernia reestablished some distance answering with a 3-goal run of its own getting the first from Strange and the last from Knight.

Alvernia returns home to face Arcadia on Saturday.
