Second Half Lifts Crusaders Over Knights

BOX SCORE

Reading, Pa. (March 22, 2013) – Alvernia University (4-3) used a second half surge to take an 18-11 victory over Arcadia University ( 7-1) in non-conference women's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon.

The Crusaders started the scoring in the second half to break a 6-6 tie as Brooke Campione (Oakdale, NY / Connetquot High School) scored within the first two minutes on an assist by Nora Walsh (Hatfield, Pa. / Lansdale Catholic). Arcadia answered with back to back goals to put them up 8-7, but Candice Knight (Darlington, Md. / Havre De Grace) and Julie Sutton (Sewell, NJ / Clearview) followed suit with 19:18 to play in the game to recapture the lead.

Alvernia did not let up, making a seven goal run to go ahead 14-8. The Knights attempted a comeback, scoring two goals within twenty seconds of each other, and 11:24 still left to play. Campione and Strange stopped the threat, tacking on three more goals for the Crusaders to take a 17-10 lead with five minutes left to play.

Arcadia opened the game with back to back goals to take an early 2-0 lead within the first five minutes of play. The Crusaders responded with six unanswered goals, led by Knight who had three of the six, with fifteen minutes left of play in the first half. However, the Knights chipped away at Alvernia's lead, having four goals in a row to tie the game at six just before the half.

Campione led the way for the Crusaders, scoring seven goals. Goalkeeper Colleen Reilly (Medford, N.J/Shawnee) had seven saves in the win.

Alvernia returns to action on Wednesday, facing Widener in their first Commonwealth Conference game.
