Crusaders Start Fast In Conference Opener

Sutton, Knight Lead Alvernia With Three Goals Each

Chester, Pa. (Mar. 27, 2014) - Alvernia University (5-3, 1-0) scored the final four goals of the first half and nine total in the opening 30 minutes on its way to a 12-8 win over Widener University (0-7, 0-1) Thursday evening in Commonwealth Conference women's lacrosse action at Edith R. Dixon Field.

The Crusaders have now won five straight and got a team-high three goals apiece from Julie Sutton (Sewell, N.J./Clearview) and Candace Knight (Darlington, Md./Havre de Grace).

Sutton scored two of her three in the second half when the Crusaders scored just three total, but maintained a comfortable lead.  Colleen Reilly (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) made 18 saves in net for the Crusaders.

Alvernia looks to keep the win streak going Saturday at conference opponent Lycoming College.
