Lycoming Tops Alvernia, 15-5

Four Score For Crusaders

Reading, Pa. (March 29, 2014) - Lycoming College (4-5, 2-0) scored six times in the third quarter to lead the Warriors to a 15-5 win over Alvernia University (2-8. 0-2) Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Conference action.

The Crusaders responded quickly to Lycoming in the first quarter. Just a minute after Lycoming scored its second goal, Bejamin Manning (Perkiomenville, Pa./Boyertown) used an unassisted goal to put the Crusaders on the board. With 5:36 left in the quarter, Mallory Pierre (Maplewood, N.J./Columbia) added a goal of his own, keeping Alvernia within one of the Warriors.

Alvernia continued to be aggressive in the second quarter, attempting three shots within the first five minutes. However, the Crusaders were unable to match Lycoming, falling behind to Lycoming 6-2.

The Crusaders connected twice in the third quarter. With 3:33 left in the quarter, Jared Toll (St. Catherines, Ontario/Lewisburg Area) broke up a Lycoming 5-goal run with an unassisted goal. Pierre followed suit two minutes later, picking up his second goal of day as the Crusaders closed the quarter down 12-4.

Alvernia scored the last goal of the fourth quarter as Pierre found Colin Gallagher (Sinking Spring, Pa./Wilson), who found the net. Lycoming finished out with three goals for the 15-5 final.

Brandon Weaver (Shillington, Pa./Governor Mifflin) had 14 saves for the Crusaders.

Alvernia continues Commonwealth Conference action on Wednesday, travelling to Lebanon Valley College.
