Alvernia Outlasts Lycoming, 13-10

Campione Scores 8 For Crusaders

Lycoming, Pa. (March 29, 2014) – Brooke Campione (Oakdale, NY / Connetquoet High School) drove the Crusader offense as Alvernia University (6-3, 3-0) captured a 13-10 win over Lycoming College(4-6, 0-2) in Commonwealth Conference action on Saturday.

The Crusaders scored first as Campione posted back to back goals to give Alvernia the early 2-0 lead. Lycoming was able to answer to cut the lead to one, but Campione struck again, taking back the two goal lead. However the Warriors did not settle, scoring three in a row to jump ahead of the Crusaders 4-3.

Alvernia refused to be defeated, using a minute long, three goal run of its own to take the lead going into the half. Jacquelyn Strange (Newtown, Pa. / Council Rock North) started off the run, using an unassisted goal to tie the game at four.

Less than 30 seconds after the goal, junior Katie Ensulo (East Lyme, Ct. / East Lyme)started and ended the next Crusader possession. After forcing a Warrior turnover, Ensulo used an assist from Angel Adams (New Holland, Pa. / Garden Spot) to reestablish Alvernia's lead.

Campione quickly tacked on another goal, using a feed from Nora Walsh (Hatfield, Pa. / Lansdale Catholic) to lift the Crusaders up 6-4.

The Crusaders and the Warriors exchanged goals throughout the second half, but Alvernia never let Lycoming catch up. After the Warriors opened the second half with a goal to cut the Crusader lead to one, Strange hit her second goal of the game to extend the lead 7-5.

Lycoming cut the lead a second time, but Adams picked up her first goal of the game to keep Lycoming behind 8-6.
With 13:59 left in the half, the Warriors again came within one. However, in a 30-second span, Campione pushed Alvernia's lead back to two.

Lycoming made its fourth and final run at cutting the lead with 11:04 left in the game. Coming off of an Alvernia goal, the Warriors used a goal by Savannah Fox to stay one behind the Crusaders at 10-9. Campione sealed the game with her second set of back to back goals, putting Alvernia out of reach .

Colleen Reilly (Medford, NJ / Shawnee) had seven saves for the Crusaders.

Alvernia returns home on Wednesday to take on Lebanon Valley College in Commonwealth Conference Action.
