Swarthmore Tops Alvernia, 11-6

Knight Scores Twice For Crusaders

Swarthmore, Pa. (Mar. 6, 2014) - Swarthmore College (2-0) scored six goals in the second half of an 11-6 win over Alvernia University (0-1) Thursday evening in non-conference women's lacrosse at Swarthmore.

The teams traded goals for the first 15 minutes of play before Alvernia went back-to-back to take a 3-2 lead on a Julie Sutton (Sewell, N.J./Clearview) goal with 12:52 left in the half.

Swarthmore tied up the game with a goal four minutes later and scored the last three of the half for a 5-3 lead at the break.

The streak continued into the second half with the hosts scoring six straight for an 11-3 lead with 12:30 to play in the game.

Alvernia scored the last three goals for the 11-6 final.

The Crusaders were led by Candace Knight (Darlington, Md./Havre de Grace) who scored twice.  Colleen Reilly (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) made five saves in net for the Crusaders.

Alvernia returns to action Saturday when it opens the home schedule hosting FDU-Florham.
