Late Rally Falls A Bit Short In Loss To Messiah

Crusaders Square Off With Falcons In Commonwealth Semifinal

Reading, Pa. (Apr. 26, 2014) - Alvernia University (9-6, 3-4) scored 10 of the final 15 goals of the game, but couldn't overcome the early deficit in a 19-14 loss to Messiah College (9-6, 6-1) Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Conference women's lacrosse action at Alvernia.

The Falcons controlled the first half on their way to a 10-3 lead at halftime.  They scored four of the first five goals in the second half to open up a 14-4 lead with just over 23 minutes left in the game.

Alvernia ran off three straight goals, but couldn't put together a necessary longer string to get back in the game.  The teams alternated goals into the final minute of the game until Alvernia scored three goals in the final 67 seconds.

Candace Knight (Darlington, Md./Haver de Grace) had a team-high five goals for the Crusaders and Brooke Campione (Oakdale, N.Y./Connetquot) added four.

The two teams will face off again on Wednesday at Messiah in the semifinals of the Commonwealth Championships.  Messiah earns the top seed in a three-way tiebreaker with Lebanon Valley and Stevenson.  LVC will travel to Stevenson in the other semifinal.
