BOX SCORE Westminster, Md. (May 7, 2014) - Second-seeded McDaniel College (11-8) scored six of the final seven goals of the first half and held Alvernia University (9-9) to three second-half goals in a 17-7 win Wednesday evening in quarterfinal action of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Mid-Atlantic Region Women's Lacrosse Championships at Gill Stadium.
Alvernia got two goals from Kaitiyn Ensulo (East Lyme, Conn./East Lyme) and a goal apiece from five other players. McDaniel got a game-high six goals from Julia Jacobs and five goals with five assists from Danielle Entrot.
Alvernia opened the scoring when
Julie Sutton (Sewell, N.J./Clearview) scored an unassisted goal just over four minutes after the opening draw. Entrot scored twice, but Alvernia answered with goals from
Nora Walsh (Hatfield, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) and Ensulo to take back a 3-2 lead.
The Green Terror scored three straight before a goal from Alvernia freshman
Brooke Campione (Oakdale, N.Y./Connetquot) briefly stopped the run. The hosts scored three straight from there for an 8-4 lead at the halftime break.
Both teams scored a goal apiece over the first 10 minutes of the second half before another 3-goal run for McDaniel. Alvernia scored again to stop the run, but McDaniel answered with five straight goals to put the game out of reach.
Colleen Reilly (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) made 11 saves for the Crusaders.
McDaniel will advance to the ECAC Final Four hosted by top-seeded Lebanon Valley College. McDaniel will face St. Joe's College (Long Island) in one semifinal with LVC facing Drew University in the other.
