BOX SCORE Elkins Park, Pa (Feb. 3, 2016) - Alvernia University (10-12-2) saw another fantastic performance in goal as Junior
Mike Durofchalk held the Byrn Athyn College Lions (22-3-1) to a manageable four goals while stopping 49 shots in the 4-0 deficit Wednesday evening.
Bryn Athyn, the current number #1 seed in the ACHA Atlantic Region and defending DVCHC conference champions, has not been slowed down often this season.
Durofchalk played his strongest game as a Crusader despite the unfavorable result on the score board.
The Lions, hosting an unusual home game on the "road" at the archaic Rink at Old York Road, came out firing on all cylinders, bombarding quality shots and rushes on Alvernia's defense all night. Durofchak rose to the task, surrendering a lone first period goal. The Crusaders managed to muster some excellent offense, but fortuitous bounces and breaks kept the Vern off the scoreboard.
Alvernia appeared to have knotted the game up at 1-1 in the seond period, yet the goal was waved off and disallowed with an early whistle.
The Lions picked up their momentum after the recall, responding with two quick strikes within a minute of each other to create a separation that would seem insurmountable considering their dominating success this season.
Alvernia received some strong support from the unheralded fourth line as senior
Troy White had his best game as a Crusader with several good scoring chances while determined to out chirp his opponents in the corners. Equally impressive freshman Phil Satz joined White in stringing together solid shifts all night administering several open ice hits.
The Crusader's finish off the regular season on Saturday in Sewell, New Jersey taking on the streaking Rowan Profs in a conference game which may determine a playoff birth.
