Brianna DePriest delivered the walk-off single to give Alvernia University a 2-1 victory in its Florida finale against Mount Union.
Tied 1-1 entering the bottom of the seventh, pinch hitter Alexandria Maher was hit by a pitch to give the Crusaders the runner it needed.
JoAnnah Lim beat out her bunt on a Raider's miscue, advancing Maher from first to third.
DePriest quickly brought in Maher, driving a single up the middle for the win.
Alvernia scored its initial run in the first inning. DePriest gave the Crusaders its first runner of the day on a single to right, and advanced to second on a
Morgan Petry walk. DePriest came around to score a batter later off a single up the middle by
Mckenzie Miessau.
Mount Union plated the equalizer the fifth.
The Crusaders had multiple opportunities throughout the game, leaving runners on in every inning.
Freshman
Samantha Petry went the distance in the circle, scattering five hits and striking out one.
In game one, the Crusaders fell to Penn State Behrend, 4-2.
Trailing 3-0 midway through the second inning, Alvernia posted a pair of runs to come within one.
Analise Fouracre and
Riley Shields reached on back-to-back singles, and advanced to second and third on a
Morgan Psiuk fielder's choice. Lim then picked up a pair of RBIs on a two-out single.
Behrend tacked on an insurance run in the sixth.
Freshman
Riley Shields suffered the loss on the mound, allowing 8 hits with 6 strikouts.
The Crusaders return from Florida to host their first home game of the season on Tuesday, facing Eastern at 3:00 pm.
