BOX SCORE 2 Clermont, Fl (Mar. 8, 2017) - Alvernia University (5-1) split a pair of games on Wednesday at the National Training Center.
The Crusaders took game one against New England College, 5-1, before falling to #14 Moravian, 6-0.
In the opener, Alvernia jumped ahead with four runs in the second. With
Emily Carmella and
Sarah Bystrycki on and two outs,
Morgan Psiuk reached on a Pilgrim error to plate Carmella. Bystrycki and Psiuk crossed a batter later as
Taylor Malinish delivered a two-run triple to right. Before the final out, a New England error allowed Malinish to score.
The Pilgrims pushed across a run in the top of the fourth to cut the deficit 4-1, but Alvernia regained its four-run lead back in the fifth as
Taylor Thomas scored on another New England error off the bat of
Morgan Petry.
Senior
Brianna Fisher went the distance on the mound for the Crusaders, allowing just four hits in seven innings of work.
In the nightcap, Moravian posted four runs in the first and added an insurance run in each of the fourth and sixth innings. Petry notched Alvernia's lone hit, and
Mckenzie Miessau marked Alvernia's only other runner in the contest.
Taylor Fouracre and
Riley Shields split the game in the circle.
The Crusaders finish their Florida schedule tomorrow, facing Penn State-Behrend and Mount Union. The first game is set for an 8:00 am start.
