Reading, Pa. (Sept. 11, 2017) - Alvernia University Director of Athletics
Bill Stiles announced on Monday the hiring of Jenn Castle as the Head Softball Coach of the Golden Wolves.
Castle joins the staff at Alvernia after eight years as an assistant coach at Marietta College.
"Jenn has a proven track record in successful recruiting at an institution similar to Alvernia and impressed us with her knowledge of softball and attention to detail," said Stiles. Â "We are well positioned for success with a good mix of young talent and strong upper class leadership. We are excited to have Jenn take over our softball program."
Castle was a 2-time All-GLIAC performer as a player at Ashland University. Â She was 2-time GLIAC All-Academic and holds the Ashland record for hits in a game (5) and is tied for third for stolen bases in a season (17).
Castle got into coaching right out of college taking the assistant position at Marietta. Â In eight years with the Pioneers she coached 25 All-Conference players, 22 Academic All-Conference players, and had four players earn All-Region honors.
"I would like to say 'Thank you' to
Bill Stiles for allowing me this opportunity to take over the Alvernia softball program," said Castle. Â "The MAC Commonwealth is such a strong conference. We know we will face tough teams. I am excited for the challenge and I can tell the team is ready to be a top contender.
"I want to thank Marietta Head Coach Jeanne Arbuckle and the Marietta athletic staff for being such influential mentors, and recognize former Ashland University Head Coach and 2017 NFCA Hall of Fame inductee Sheilah Gulas for being such a positive role model through my college playing days and into my coaching career."
Castle will begin immediately and will also serve as the Assistant Sports Information Director.
