Grantham, Pa. (Dec. 6, 2019) - Three wrestlers for Alvernia University advanced to day two of the Messiah Petrofes Invitational Friday.

Gavin Hollingsworth advanced in the consolation bracket at 157, as did Ali Capobianco at 184 and Tonee Ellis at 197. All three Alvernia wrestlers made it to the quarterfinals of the championship bracket before being knocked into the consolation bracket.

All three also won their first consolation match on Friday to advance to Saturday.

Angelo Moore won two bouts--both by fall--at heavyweight before losing to Grant Martin from Mount Union then to Ryan Weitz from Alderson Broaddus in the consolation bracket.

Jonatan Portilo (125), Corey Jenkins (133), Alexander Gorlin (133), Robert Lawlor (149), Tanner Vogel (165), and Chase Smith (174) won a match each in the championship bracket and were eventually knocked out of the consolation bracket.

The Messiah Petrofes Invitational continues Saturday morning at 9:00 am.
