BOX SCORE Cortland, NY (Jan. 6, 2020) - Cortland University (7-3-1) scored three goals in the third period to seal a 7-2 win over Alvernia University (3-8) on Monday night at Cortland.
Cortland got on the board first with a goal from Grace Schnorr 12 minutes into action.
As time expired in the first period, the Red Dragons added their second of the game with a goal at the 19:59 mark to go up 2-0.
Cortland added its third of the night just over a minute into the second period on a goal from Jayden Kelly.
Alvernia cut the lead down to 3-1 just two minutes later on a power-play goal from
Amber Steinhilpert, but the Red Dragons went back up by three with six minutes remaining on a goal from Dany Donegan.
Cortland extended its lead to four with Schnorr's second goal of the night to open the third period.
Alvernia got back within three on a power-play goal from
Olivia Gilida at the 5:44 mark in the third period.
The Red Dragons would score two unanswered to finish out the period and take the 7-2 win.
Isabelle Hovel made her second collegiate start and made 47 saves in net on 54 shots faced.
Gilida and Steinhilpert picked up two points with a goal each, and
Abby Radcliffe picked up two points with two assists.
Alvernia returns to the ice on Friday with a two-game series at Post University. Game one of the series is 12:30 PM on Friday, and game two is at noon on Saturday.
