Blevins Leads Alvernia in Women's Wrestling's First Competition

East Stroudsburg, Pa. (Nov. 6, 2022) - Alvernia Women's Wrestling competed in its first ever competition on Sunday as the Golden Wolves wrestled at the East Stroudsburg University Women's Open.

The Golden Wolves were led by  Nevaeh Blevins who took fourth place in the 101 lb bracket. 

Alvernia is back in action next Sunday at Ursinus for a dual match.

Kathryn Berger
Berger was pinned in 17 seconds to open her day in the round of 32 against Wyoming Seminary's Love Daley. Berger received a first round bye in the consolation bracket before being pinned in 19 seconds by Trinity's Sidney Ramos.

Nevaeh Blevins
Blevins was awarded a bye in the round of 16 to move her right into the quarterfinals of the 101 bracket. Blevins was up 6-2 on Kristy Travis in the bout and was then able to pin Travis at the 1:33 mark to move into the semis. Blevins was pinned in just under a minute in the semis to move into the 3rd place bout. Blevins was then pinned in 1:42 by Olivia Klein to take fourth place.

Taylor Bloom
Bloom fell by tech fall, 10-0, in 18 seconds to Gannon's Julianne Moccia in the round of 16. She then dropped her consolation match, 13-2, to Elmira's Katelyn Porter. 

Mia Bumbarger
Bumbarger had a bye in the round of 32 and faced Sacred Heart's Kathryn Vogt-Shields in the round of 16. Bumbarger scored the first two points of the bout, but was pinned after 1:18. Bumbarger was awarded another bye in the consolation bracket before being tech. falled by Brock's Vannesa Keefe.

Gianna Faura
After a bye in her first round, Faura was pinned by Brock University's Brianna Fraser in 2:09. Faura then lost 6-0 in the consolation bracket to Gannon's Kendall McGarity. 

Makayla Marreo-Mogel
Mogel was pinned by Sacred Heart's Madison Sandquist in 11 seconds to start her day in the round of 32. Mogel then faced Vanessa Keefe of Brock University in the consolation bracket, but was pinned in 19 seconds. 

Andrea Wilmoth
Wilmoth fell in her first round by a 10-0 tech fall to Sacred Heart's Jacklyn Smith. After a bye in the first round of consolation bouts, Wimoth was pinned in 1:28 by Trinity's Taryn Martin.
