Huntley Finishes Second, Alvernia in Seventh After Day One of Golden Bear Invite

Sinking Spring, Pa. (Oct. 21, 2023) - Through the first day of competition at the Kutztown University Golden Bear Invite at Berks Lanes, Alvernia went 3-1 in team play and is in seventh place overall in the field of 13 teams.

Emily Huntley led Alvernia with a five-match average of 199.0, which earned her second place finish overall among individuals, and a spot on the All-Tournament team.

Alvernia went 3-1 in traditional match format, defeating Kutztown, Caldwell, and Coppin. Alvernia is in 7th place overall in team-standings with a total pinfall of 4,332.

The Golden Wolves started out with a first round bye, meaning they bowled for total pins only. Alvernia posted an 889 to start the day off, with Huntley leading the way with a 202 on the round. Lacey Slaymaker finished in second for Alvernia with a 186, and Reaghan Smith bowled a 178.

Alvernia then picked up its first win of the day, edging the host Golden Bears by an 863-857 decision. Huntley again led Alvernia, this time posting a 218. Smith finished in second for the Golden Wolves with a 178, and Morgan Dupont bowled a 164.

Alvernia kept things rolling in its third match of the day as the Golden Wolves posted their highest pinfall of the day with a 966-764 win over Caldwell University. Huntley posted her highest game of the day with a 233 to lead Alvernia. Both Smith and Frankie Kelly posted 194s, and Dupont bowled a 177.

The Golden Wolves picked up their third win of the day with an 810-800 win over Coppin. Huntley finished with a 184, and Smith bowled a 172. Mia Siminitus bowled a 158.

Alvernia closed out the day with 920-804 lost to Fairleigh Dickinson University. Siminitus led Alvernia in match five with a game of 184. Huntley bowled a 159, and Smith had a 157.

Alvernia is back at Berks Lanes tomorrow for the final day of the Golden Bear Invite. Sunday's format will be four Baker format matches to determine seeding for a fifth and final bracket match.
