Alvernia Has Undefeated Saturday at AMCC Round Robin

Buffalo, NY (Nov. 18, 2023) - Alvernia University went 4-0 during day two of the AMCC Round Robin, hosted by Hilbert College.

The Golden Wolves entered Saturday in second overall after going 2-1 on Friday. Alvernia then picked up wins over Penn State Behrend, Pitt-Bradford, Pitt-Greensburg, and New Jersey City University on Saturday.

In match one of the day, Alvernia defeated PSU Behrend, 943-875. Alvernia averaged 188 across the five games and put up over 200 in games one and five. Morgan DuPont led Alvernia in game one with a total of 184 across her frames bowled.

In match two, Alvernia defeated Pitt-Bradford, 858-786. Alvernia's best game of the match came in game four after the Golden Wolves bowled a 182. Alvernia averaged 171 across the five games, and Reaghan Smith led Alvernia with a 192.

In game three, Alvernia bowled its second straight 858 to defeat Pitt-Greensboro, 858-679. Emily Huntlet led Alvernia in game three with a 190.

Alvernia then needed a come-from-behind effort in match four against NJCU as the Golden Wolves defeated the Gothic Knights, 882-857. Alvernia was down 59 pins heading into the final game, but the Golden Wolves bowled a 223 in game five to out-bowl the Gothic Knights by 84 pins in the game and take the 882-857 win. Alvernia averaged a 176 in the match and Dupont led Alvernia with a 189.

"The girls worked hard on the lanes today," said Head Coach Kerry Smith. " They showed resilience in the last match after a rough 4th game and being down 59 pins.  It was amazing to see them come together and bowl a 223 in game five to win the match by 25 pins."

Alvernia had a bye in match five, so final standings based on pinfall are skewed heading into Sunday. But, Alvernia is one of just two teams at 6-1 overall. The other team is William Smith, who the Golden Wolves lost to in the opening match of the tournament on Friday.

The top six teams based on win/loss record in this AMCC Round Robin and the AMCC Round Robin in February with earn a spot in the AMCC Conference Championship in March.

Alvernia is back in action tomorrow for its final three matches of the tournament.
