Eight Alvernia Student-Athletes Earn Spring Academic All-MAC Honors

Annville, Pa. (July 6, 2023) - Alvernia University placed eight student-athletes on respective 2023 Spring Academic All-MAC Teams, as announced by Middle Atlantic Conference Executive Director Megan Morrison on Thursday.

Josh Kreider (Baseball), Haleigh Lackner (Women's Lacrosse), Luke Fagley (Men's Golf), Leah Bouchard (Women's Tennis), Shinelle Felix (Women's Outdoor Track and Field), McKylie Boreman (Women's Golf), Katie Lapinsky (Women's Golf), and Rylee Stenzel (Women's Golf) earned the honor for Alvernia.

The Spring Academic All-MAC teams recognize the top student-athletes both in the classroom and in athletic competition during the 2023 spring semester. The MAC sports information directors nominate and vote on the Academic All-MAC teams, giving 50 percent weight on both academic success and athletic success. A student-athlete must have a spring semester grade-point average (GPA) of 3.20 or higher to be eligible for the award.

Josh Kreider, a sophomore majoring in health care science, was a first team ABCA All-Region relief pitcher and second team All-MAC Commonwealth honoree. Kreider appeared in 19 games and pitched 26 and one third innings. He finished the season with a 1.03 ERA and struckout 24 batters while giving up just 20 hits. He allowed just three earned runs and gave up just five extra base hits. This is Kreider's first Academic All-MAC honor.

Haleigh Lackner, a junior majoring in nursing, was a first team All-MAC Commonwealth honoree and was Alvernia's first women's lacrosse player to earn IWLCA All-Region honors. Lackner scored a team and MAC Commonwealth high 59 goals and a team high 23 assists. Lackner also led the MAC Commonwealth midfielders with 82 total points. She broke her own university record with 95 draw controls on the year and led Alvernia with 32 caused turnovers. This is Lackner's first Academic All-MAC honor. She is also the first Alvernia women's lacrosse player to earn the honor since the MAC began the Academic All-MAC program in 2013-14.

Luke Fagley, a graduate student in the MBA program, was a second team All-MAC Commonwealth and the 2023 Men's Golf MAC Senior Scholar Athlete. Fagley took sixth at the MAC Commonwealth championship. He played in 17 rounds during the 2022-23 season and finished the year with a 77.14 scoring average. He finished the year with six top-ten finishes, and one top-three finish. This is Fagley's third Academic All-MAC honor.

Leah Bouchard, a junior majoring in biology medical laboratory science, was a first team All-MAC Commonwealth honoree. Bouchard was 11-5 overall this season as Alvernia's #1 singles player. She also finished the season 10-6 overall at #1 doubles. This is Bouchard's first Academic All-MAC honor.

Shinelle Felix, a junior psychology major, finished third in the nation in the triple jump at the 2023 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship. Her third place finish was the highest ever individual finish at an NCAA Track and Field Championship for an Alvernia athlete. Felix also took 11th in the nation in the long jump. Felix also won the MAC Championship in the triple jump and took second in the long jump. This is Felix's first Academic All-MAC honor for outdoor track and field and her second overall Academic All-MAC honor.

McKylie Boreman, a junior occupational therapy major, finished t-7th at the MAC Championship to earn second team All-MAC honors. Boreman played in 19 rounds during the 2022-23 season and finished the year with a 76.4 scoring average. She had five first place finishes during the season, 11 top-three finishes, and 14 top-ten finishes. This is Boreman's third Academic All-MAC honor.

Katie Lapinsky, a sophomore majoring in accounting, also finished t-7th at the MAC Championship to earn second team All-MAC honors. Boreman played in 19 rounds during the 2022-23 season and finished the year with a 79.0 scoring average. She had two first place finishes during the season, three top-three finishes, and 14 top-ten finishes. This is Lapinsky's second All-MAC honor. 

Rylee Stenzel, a first year majoring in criminal justice, finished t-7th at the MAC Championship along with Boreman and Lapinsky to earn second team All-MAC honors. Stenzel played in 19 rounds during the 2022-23 season and finished the year with an 84.0 scoring average. She had one top-three finish on the season and nine top-ten finishes.
