Women's Bowling Takes Second at Greater Pittsburgh Open

Alvernia Finishes Just One Pin Shy of First

Pittsburgh, Pa. (Jan. 13, 2024) - After nearly two months off for its midseason break, Alvernia Women's Bowling returned to action on Saturday at the Saint Vincent College Great Pittsburgh Open. 

Alvernia finished in second place overall in the tournament of 11 teams. Alvernia was just one pin off of first place as Mount Saint Mary's took first place with a pinfall of 6,885 to Alvernia's 6,884 pins.

Alvernia bowled in four traditional games and then four Baker sets en route to its 6,884 pins.

How it Happened
  • In its first game of the day, Alvernia broke 1,000 for the first time with a team total of 1,062. Reaghan Smith led Alvernia with 245 pins and Frankie Kelly was right behind with 236.
  • In game two, Alvernia again broke 1,000, this time with a 1,036. Emily Huntley led Alvernia in game two with a 235. Morgan DuPont finished with a 215, Kelly finished with a 205, and Mia Simintus broke 200 as well with a 201.
  • In game three, Alvernia bowled a 936 with Kelly leading the way with a 220 and DuPont finishing with a 201.
  • In its final traditional game of the day, Alvernia bowled a 944 with Huntley bowling a 220 to lead the Golden Wolves.
  • Alvernia then bowled four Baker sets to close out the afternoon. Following a 725 in Baker set one, Alvernia posted a 759 to mark its highest Baker score of the day. Alvernia finished with a 710 and 713 in its final two Baker sets.
Final Notes
  • Frankie KellyEmily Huntley, and Morgan DuPont were named to the All-Tournament team. Kelly took second place amongst individuals with a total pinfall of 841 through the four traditional games. Huntley took fourth place with a total of 827 and DuPont was fifth with an 805.
Up Next
  • Alvernia has off until February 2nd when the Golden Wolves head to New Jersey City for the second AMCC Round Robin of the season. 
  • Alvernia went 9-1 at the first round robin of the season back in November. The results from this round robin will combine with the results from the first AMCC round robin in November to determine the six teams that will compete for an AMCC Championship in March.
