Miksich Paces Alvernia on Day One of The Melee

Williamsburg, Va. (Oct. 20, 2024) - Alvernia Women's Golf posted a team score of 321 on Sunday in the first day of The Melee, putting Alvernia on top of the leader board through the first day of competition at Ford's Country Club.

Alvernia's 321 gives the Golden Wolves a ten-stroke lead over Drew University in the field of nine teams.

Cassidy Miksich led Alvernia on the first day of competition with a 4-over 76. She is in second place overall and one stroke back of Drew's Josephine Nguyen. Miksich posted six straight pars on holes 1-6 before giving back a stroke with a bogey on the seventh. She moved back to even par with a birdie on the eighth, but doubled the ninth to make the turn at 2-over. After a bogey on the tenth, Miksich settled back in with four straight pars before a double on 15. She then birdied the 16th and 17th holes, but finished with a bogey on the 18th.

McKylie Boreman finished in second for Alvernia and is in a tie for 3rd overall with a round of 80. Boreman posted a 3-over front nine with seven pars, and went 5-over on the back nine with five pars.

Emmerson Bartley posted Alvernia's third score of the tie. She is in fifth place overall following her round of 81. Barley also played the front nine at 3-over with six pars, and posted three more pars on the back nine for her round of 81.

Katie Lapinsky rounded out Alvernia's counting scores for the day and is in a tie for eighth overall with a round of 84. Lapinksy finished the day with nine pars, including six on the back nine.

Grace Spielman played as Alverina's fifth player today and posted a round of 89 to sit in a tie for 16th overall. Spielman's round was highlighted by four pars, all of which came on the front nine.

Ford's Country Club played tough for the field on Sunday. Only 13 total birdies were carded on the round in the field of 44 golfers. Alvernia led the field with 44 recorded pars.

Alvernia is back at Ford's on Monday for the second and final day of The Melee. It will be Alvernia's final round of golf for the fall season.
