Alvernia Closes out Fall Season with Win at The Melee

Williamsburg, Va. (Oct. 21, 2024) - Alvernia Women's Golf closed out its fall competition season with a win on Monday, taking first place at The Melee following a second round team score of 307 on Monday at Ford's Country Club.

Alvernia bettered its first day total of 321 by 14 strokes with the second day score of 307 for a two-day total of 628. Alvernia had three of the top-four individual finishers in the event as well. McKylie Boreman finished in second, Cassidy Miksich took third, and Emmerson Bartley finished in fourth. All four of Alvernia's counting scores were top-seven finishers with Katie Lapinsky taking seventh place. Drew University's Josephine Nguyen ran away with the individual title, taking first place by ten strokes with a two-day total of 143 following a 4-under 68 on Monday.

Boreman posted a 73 on Monday for a two-day total of 153. Boreman started her day on the 12th hole and posted back-to-back birdies to open her round. She moved back to even par with two bogeys before moving back to 1-under with a birdie on the 17th. She then played the next ten holes at 2-over par with eight pars. She returned to the back nine to close out her round with pars on the 10th and 11th for her round of 73.

Cassidy Miksich finished in second for Alvernia and in third place overall with a Monday round of 79 and a two-day total of 155. Miksich had 12 pars on her day on Monday, including seven straight pars to close out her round.

Emmerson Bartley finished in third for Alvernia and in fourth place overall with a day two score of 77 for a two-day total of 148. Bartley improved her day one score by four strokes. She started her day with a par on the 12th hole, which would be her first of 13 pars on the day. Bartley closed out her round with seven pars across her final eight holes of the day.

Katie Lapinsky finished in fourth for Alvernia and in seventh overall with a two-day total of 162. Lapinsky shaved six strokes off her first round on Sunday with a score of 78 on Monday. Lapinksy started her day with back-to-back pars on the 13th and 14th holes. She found trouble to close out her first taste of the back nine, but settled in well on the front nine. Lapinsky played the front nine at 1-over par and kept it rolling with a birdie on the 10th. But, she closed out her round with bogeys on the 11th and 12th for her round of 78.

Grace Spielman finished as Alvernia's fifth golfer and took 20th place overall. She posted an 87 on Monday for a two-day total of 176. Spielman posted five pars on her round on day two.

Today marked Alvernia's final competition of the fall season. Alvernia finishes the fall with seven first place finishes.
