Hoovler, Williams Pace Golden Wolves at Mason-Dixon Collegiate Invitational

Waynesboro, Pa (October 5, 2024) - Jackson Hoovler and Shawn Williams both fired in under par rounds to lead Alvernia University on day one of the Mason-Dixon Collegiate Invitational at Waynesboro Country Club.

Hoovler led the way with a three under 69 and poured in a total of five birdies. Hoovler's 69 is the lowest single round score since Owen Wisner posted a 68 at Waynesboro CC in the 2021-2022 season. Shawn Williams posted a two under 70 round and he tallied six birdies on the day as the Golden Wolves finished day one with a total team score of 300 and in ninth place.

How it Happened

Jackson Hoovler started his day with two birdies in his first four five holes before a bogey at the sixth. Hoovler then tallied three pars to end his front nine with a one under 35. Hoovler then posted back to back pars at ten and 11 before a bogey at the par five 12th. Hoovler then bounced back with three pars and three birdies in his final six holes to card a 34 on the back and post a three under 69 on the round and is in a tie for second place.
Shawn Williams was not far behind Hoolver with a two under 70 in round one and is in a tie for sixth place. Williams started with a birdie on one but a bogey at the third bumped him back to even. Williams then tallied three pars and two birdies in his next five holes before a bogey at the ninth saw him card a one under 35 on the front. Williams recorded two bogeys on 11 and 13 but squeezed a birdie in at the par five 12th. He then ended his round with three pars and two birdies to finish with a back nine score of 35 and a 70 on the round.
Matthew Gagliardi posted the third best score of the day for the Golden Wolves with a five over 77. Gagliardi carded three pars in his first five holes but a bogey and a double jumped him to three over but he bounced back with four straight pars to card a three over 39 on the front nine. Gagliardi carded another double at the 11th but bounced back with a birdie at 12 and another on 14 before carding three straight pars to end the back nine with a 38. Gagliardi currently sits in a tie for 42nd place.
Jakob Chapman rounded out the counting scores for the Golden Wolves with a round one score of 84. Chapman carded four pars on the front nine but was plagued by big numbers as he posted a 43 on the front nine. Chapman then tallied a birdie on the 12th and a par at 14 but bogeys on the other seven holes saw him post a 41 on the back and an 84 on the day and is in a tie for 81st.
Matt Davies tallied an 89 in round one and rounded out the scores for Alvernia. Davies started with a double and a bogey on the first and second holes but then bounced back with five pars in the final seven holes to post a 42 on the front. Davies was then hampered by big numbers on the back nine and carded just two pars and posted a 47 on the back nine to card a 89 on the round. Davies is currently in a tie for 93rd place.
