Golden Wolves Tie Team Record at the Mason-Dixon Collegiate Invitational

Waynesboro, Pa (October 5, 2024) - Alvernia University tied its single round team record of 294 in round two of the Mason-Dixon Collegiate Invitational Sunday afternoon at Waynesboro Country Club.

The Golden Wolves matched the school single round record of 294 that was set in 2012 at Bent Creek Country Club. Shawn Williams posted the low round of 72 for the Golden Wolves, Matt Davies carded a career low 73, Jackson Hoovler came in with a two over 74 and Matthew Gagliardi rounded out the scores for Alvernia with a 75. Alvernia finished in a tie for seventh place with a two day total of 594 (300/294).

How it Happened

Shawn Williams led the way for the Golden Wolves on day two with an even par 72 and finished in ninth place. Williams started his day the same way he did yesterday, with a birdie but then carded back to back bogeys at two and three. Williams then bounced back with birdies on five and eight and four pars to end the front nine with a one under 35. Williams then kept the par train going with three straight to start his back nine before ripping off back to back birdies at 13 and 14. Bogeys plagued the end of his round with three in his final four holes to card a 37 on the back nine and post an even par 72 on the day.
Matt Davies fired in the second best score of the day for the Golden Wolves with a career low 73. Davies started his day with a par at the first before back to back bogeys at two and three. But, he bounced back with three pars and two birdies to card a one over 37 on the front. Davies then bogeyed the tenth before ripping off seven pars and a birdie two at the par three 17th to card a 36 on the back and finish with a one over 73 and in a tie for 74th place.
Jackson Hoovler posted a day two score of 74 and finished in a tie for tenth place. Hoovler had bogeys plague the start of his round with four bogeys and a double in his first seven holes. But, a birdie on two and an eagle three at the par five eighth saw him only post a three over 39 on the front nine. Hoovler started with a bogey at ten but then rattled off six pars and two birdies in his final eight holes to card a one under 35 on the back and a two over 74 on the day.
Matthew Gagliardi rounded out the counting scores for the Golden Wolves with a three over 75 in round two. Gagliardi finished the tournament in a tie for 41st place. Gagliardi started his day with three straight pars but then carded two bogeys and two doubles in his next four holes. He then bounced back with a par and a birdie at the ninth to card a 41 on the front nine. Gagliardi then got hot and carded back to back pars at ten and 11 before pouring in back to back birdies at 12 and 13. Gagliardi then finished his back nine with five straight pars to card a two under 34 on the back and post a 75 on the day.
Jakob Chapman rounded the scores out for Alvernia, he posted an 81 and finished in a tie for 81st place. Chapman started with back to back bogeys at one and two but then responded with five pars and a birdie in his final seven holes to card a 38 on the front. Chapman tallied a birdie and a par in his first two holes on the back nine but only posted one par in the final seven holes with big numbers plaguing his round. Chapman carded a 43 on the back nine and an 81 on the round.
