Alvernia Takes Seventh at USBC ITC Sectional

Allen Park, Michigan (March 10, 2024) - Alvernia University Women's Bowling finished in seventh in the field of 20 teams competing at the United States Bowling Congress (USBC) Intercollegiate Team Championship section on Saturday and Sunday in Allen Park, Michigan. 

The ITC sectional 64 Baker format game tournament with 32 games on Saturday and 32 more on Sunday. Alvernia did not go head-to-head against any other team. Instead, the goal was to rack up as many pins as possible through the 64 games. 

Alvernia's team this weekend was made-up of Morgan DuPont, Emily Huntley, Frankie Kelly, Mia Siminitus, and Reaghan Smith. The combo reached a total score of 11,804 through 64 games, averaging 184.4 pins per game. 

Alvernia sat in fifth through the first 16 games on Saturday after scoring 3,080 pins. Alvernia's highest game of the first 16 came in game 13 with a round of 221. Alvernia then moved down two spots to the seventh slot through the next 16 games, scoring a 2,861 in block two to close out Saturday. Alvernia's highest game in block two came in game 17 with a round of 231. 

The Golden Wolves then opened Sunday with a block three score of 2,982 to remain in seventh place overall. Alvernia's highest game in block three came in game 45 with a game of 224. Alvernia then closed out the tournament with a block four score of 2,881 for a final tournament score of 11,804. Alvernia's highest score of block four came in game 60 with a score of 243.

The University of Pikesville won the tournament with a 64-game score of 13,383. Joining Pikesville as the four teams advancing to the USBC ITC Nationals in April are North Carolina A&T, Sacred Heart University, and Maryville University. 

Alvernia also had individuals compete in the Intercollegiate Singles Championship on Friday. Emily Huntley was Alvernia's top finisher, taking 66th in the field of 179 with a five-game pinfall of 1,115. Mia Siminitus finished right behind Huntley at 67th place with a pinfall of 1,113. Reaghan Smith took 83rd, Frankie Kelly took 116th, and Morgan DuPont took 148th.

Dupont, Smith, and Siminitus were also honored for their academic achievements as competitors with at least a 3.50 GPA. 

Alvernia is back in action March 21st for the first day of the AMCC Conference Championship.
