Williams and Hoovler Pace Alvernia at Vulcan Invitational

California, Pa (September 16, 2024) - Jackson Hoovler and Shawn Williams led Alvernia University at day one of the Vulcan Invitational hosted by California University of Pennsylvania at Cedarbrook Golf Club Monday.

Williams and Hoovler are in a tie for 16th place after rounds one and two, Jakob Chapman sits in 45th place, Matthew Gagliardi is in 41st place, Kenton Lightburn is in 52nd place and Matt Davies sits in 48th place. Alvernia is in eighth place as a team with a team total of 648 (327/321).

Round 1:
How it Happened

Shawn Williams led the way for the Golden Wolves in the first round of the day and started with four pars and a birdie in his first five holes. Williams then recorded three straight bogeys but carded par on the ninth to post a two over 38 on the front nine. Williams then birdied the tenth and tallied four pars in his next five holes before finishing birdie, bogey, par to card a 37 on the back and a three over 73 on the round.
Jackson Hoovler carded the second best score for the Golden Wolves in round one with a six over 78. Hoovler started his day par, birdie, par but then recorded bogey on four and a double on five. Hoovler bounced back with two pars, a birdie and a bogey to card a two over 38 on the front nine. Bogeys plagued Hoovler's back nine but he still carded four pars and a birdie on the 17th to post a 40 on the back and card a 78 overall.
Matthew Gagliardi recorded an 11 over, 83 in round one and recorded five pars on the front nine but carded two doubles and two bogeys to record a six over, 42 on the front. Gagliardi then went par, par, birdie, par, par in his first five holes on the back nine but two doubles and two bogeys to end the round saw him card a 41 on the back and an 83 on the round.
Jakob Chapman rounded out the counting scores for the Golden Wolves with a 91 in round one. Chapman recorded four pars on the front nine but big numbers saw him card a 44 on the front. Chapman recorded just two pars on the back nine to post a 47 and a 91 on the round.
Matt Davies posted an 89 in round one and tallied one par and a birdie on the front but also carded multiple bogeys and doubles to post a 44 on the front nine. Davies carded a two pars and a birdie on the back but bogeys again plagued his round as he posted a 45 on the back and an 89 on the round.
Kenton Lightburn posted a 102 in round one with a 50 on the front nine and a 52 on the back nine. Lightburn tallied three pars on the round.

Round 2:
How it Happened

Hoovler carded three straight pars to start his second round but then recorded a triple on the fourth. Hoovler then carded two pars and a birdie to card a 39 on the front nine. He then tallied two pars and a birdie in his first four holes on the back before back to back bogeys. Hoovler then ripped off back to back birdies on 16 and 17 before posting a 37 on the back nine and a four over 76 on the round. Hoovler is currently tied with teammate Shawn Williams for 16th place after day one.
Williams started his second round with three pars in his first four holes before birdying the par four fifth but recorded three bogeys and one par in his final four holes on the front nine to card a 39 on the front. Williams then carded six pars on the back nine but two bogeys and a double saw him post a 40 on the back and a 79 in round two. Williams currently sits in a tie for 16th place.
Chapman posted the third best score of the second round for the Golden Wolves with an 81 in round two. Chapman started with a bogey on the first but went birdie, par, par and recorded another par and one more birdie to card a three over 39 on the front. Chapman then tallied four straight pars to start the back nine but tallied four bogeys and a double to end his round and card a 42 on the back and a 81 overall. Chapman currently sits in 45th place.
Gagliardi rounded the counting scores out for Alvernia with an 85 in round two. Gagliardi tallied three pars and a 43 on the front nine. Gagliardi then carded four pars on the back nine and recorded a 42 on the back to post an 85 overall and currently sits in a tie for 41st place.
Lightburn bounced back with an 88 in round two of the tournament after two birdies and a par on the front saw his record a 42 on the front nine. Lightburn then tallied a 46 on the back nine with two pars en route to an 88 on the round. Lightburn posted a 14 stroke improvement from round one to round two and sits in 51st place.
Davies rounded out the scores for the Golden Wolves and carded a 41 on the front nine with three pars and a birdie on the front nine. Davies then carded big numbers on the back and three pars to post a 47 on the back and an 88 on the round. Davies currently sits in a tie for 48th place.
