Boreman Ties Single-Round Record to Lead Alvernia on Day One of Vulcan Invitational

elle Vernon, Pa. (Sept. 16, 2024) - Senior McKylie Boreman tied the program record for low-round and led Alvernia to a team score of 308 on the first day of the California University of Pennsylvania Vulcan Invitational on Monday at Cedarbrook Golf Club.

Boreman fired a 2-under 69 and leads the field by four strokes heading into Tuesday. The round of 69 ties the record for a low-round set by Cassidy Miksich in September of 2023 at Hershey Country Club (East). Boreman bettered her previous career record of 72 (shot five times) by three strokes.

Alvernia's 308 is just two strokes off the team-record for a low round of 306 set at the 2024 MAC Championship back in April. Alvernia holds a nine shot lead over Millersville heading into the second and final round on Tuesday.

Katie Lapinsky and Emmerson Bartley each shot rounds of 78 and sits in a tie for 7th place. Rylee Stenzel and Grace Spielman each shot 83 and sits in a tie for 26th place.

Boreman got her first round started with a par on the first hole, and set the tone from there. She finished the front nine with a clean card and made the turn at even par. She then recorded her first birdie of the day on the 11th hole and added another birdie on the 13th to move to 2-under. Boreman then carded her third birdie of the day on the 16th before giving back her first and only stroke of the day with a bogey on 17. Boreman finished out her round with a par on the 18th for the round of 2-under 69.

Lapinsky fired a 3-over 38 on the front nine with a birdie on the 7th hole. She added another birdie on the back nine with a two on the par three 11th, but she added five more bogeys on the back to finish with a round of 78.

Bartley was also 3-over at the turn with three front nine bogeys, but she picked up a stroke with a birdie on the 11th. Bartley went 5-over the remainder of the back nine to finish with a round of 78.

Spielman carded a career-low 83 after a five stroke improvement from the front to the back nine. Spielman shot a 9-over 44 on the front nine and moved to 10-over through 12 holes. She carded a birdie on the 13th to get one stroke back, but found trouble on the 14th, 16th, and 17th holes. She secured the round of 83 with a birdie on the 18th.

Stenzel also carded a round of 83. She made the turn at 5-over and found trouble on the 11th with a triple bogey. But, she recovered with a birdie on the 13th to highlight her round and finished with a 43 on the back nine for a round of 83.

Alvernia will take its nine shot lead into Tuesday for the final round of action beginning at 9:30 AM.
