Alvernia Breaks Team Record as Golden Wolves and Boreman Take First at Vulcan Invitational

California, Pa (September 17, 2024) - Alvernia Women's Golf shot a 303 on Tuesday afternoon to set a new program record and take first place at the California University of Pennsylvania Vulcan Invitational on Tuesday afternoon at the Cedar Brook Red Course. 

Alvernia improved its team score by five strokes from day two to set a new program record for a low team score. The Golden Wolves bettered the previous record of 306 set at the MAC Championship back in May. 

Alvernia took first place in the field of Division II teams by 13 strokes. The Golden Wolves were the only team on Tuesday to post a team score that was +20 or less. 

McKylie Boreman took low-medalist honors following a single-round record performance of 69 on Monday. She followed that with a round of 77 on Tuesday for a two-day total of 146. Boreman had 12 pars on her Tuesday round.

Katie Lapinsky led the way on Tuesday for Alvernia with a second round of 70. She finished with a two-day total of 148 to take second place. Her round of 70 marked a career low and first collegiate sub-par round. Lapinsky carded a 1-under 34 at the turn and moved to 2-under with a birdie on the ninth. She gave two back with a double on the 12th, but finished her round with three straight pars, a birdie on 16, bogey on 17, and a birdie on the 18th.

Emmerson Bartley finished in third for Alvernia and fourth overall with a two-day total of 152 following a 74 on Tuesday. Bartley posted a 38 on the front nine and was even par on the back nine with a birdie on the 10th. 

Rylee Stenzel finished tied for 19th with a round of 82 on Tuesday and a two-day total of 165. Stenzel finished nine pars on her round on Tuesday. 

Grace Spielman finished with a two-day total of 166 following a round of 83 on Tuesday. Spielman had six pars and a birdie on her final round.

Alvernia is back in action on Monday for day one of the Millersville Invitational on Monday at Berkleigh Golf Club.
