Alvernia Club Ice Hockey Ties Hofstra, 5-5

Reading, Pa (January 29, 2025) - Alvernia University (6-7-2) men's club ice hockey played to a 5-5 tie Saturday afternoon with Hofstra University in a men's club ice hockey matchup at BodyZone.

Hofstra took the shootout 2-0 after a scoreless overtime period sent the game to a shootout.

How it Happened

Hofstra tallied the lone goal in the opening period in the first ten minutes of the period as Hofstra took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
Both Alvernia and Hofstra's offenses erupted in the second period with six total goals in the period with the Golden Wolves netting four goals.
The Golden Wolves started things off with Logan Bush netting a goal in the first two minutes of the period thanks to assists from TJ Sinchak and Ben Maurer to tie the game at one. Buch's goal was also the 50th of his career.
Hofstra responded with two powerplay goals in the next three minutes to swing the lead back in favor of the Pride, 3-1.
The Golden Wolves bounced back with three goals in the final eight minutes of the period to grab the 4-3 lead after two periods of hockey. John Bellantoni netted the first of the three and then Buch completed his one period hat trick with the final two goals in the period.
The Pride responded with two goals in the final ten minutes of the third period to grab the 5-4 advantage heading into the final five minutes of the third period.
Alvernia then found the leveler with just over five minutes to go in the third period to tie the game up at five and send it to an overtime period.
A scoreless OT period was highlighted by Alvernia controlling the offensive side of the ice, sending eight shots on goal but could not find the back of the net as it headed to a shootout locked at five.
Hofstra then took the shootout 2-0 to grab the shootout victory.

Inside the Box Score

Logan Bush led the way offensively for the Golden Wolves with four goals. Bush eclipsed 50 career goals.
TJ Sinchak added a team high three assists and Ben Mauer added two.
John Bellantoni tallied the fifth goal for Alvernia and Christopher Claycomb, Brendan Fergus, Reece Wilson, Zackary Moats and Bryan Pilpel all recorded assists.
Carson Lopez started in net for Alvernia and recorded 25 saves.
Jackson Lesko came on late in the third period and recorded ten saves on ten shots on goal.
